I am taking a very deep breath and indulging in what I think are some well earned self-congratulatory pats on the back.  On Saturday, I ran around frantically as the charity fundraiser that I have spent the last couple of months organizing along with Ethan Johston came and went with much fanfare.

We  saw more than 350 attendees come through the doors at Homebrew for Hunger, far more than any of us involved in the planning expected.  Everyone, from attendees to guests, seemed delighted to be there and the homebrewers (deservedly) got a lot of love and a lot of great feedback.  More than a few folks have told me that they felt the homebrewers that attended this festival really brought their A games.

The event raised just under $6,000, which will be donated to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. We additionally collected over 200 pounds of food at the door.  According to Linda Fisher, Food Drive & Special Event Manager, the Food Bank can distribute 25,633 meals with our donation. That’s 3 meals a day for 8,544 people.

It feels tremendous to see such a positive outcome from something we worked so hard on.  I’d like to offer a personal “thank you” to all of the sponsors of this event.  Without all of your contributions, we could have done none of this.  In particular, I offer applause to the guys at Fullsteam Brewery, Carolina Brewery, Mystery Brewing Co., and Bull City Burger & Brewery, the entire crew at the Splinter Group, the West End Wine Bar, and Fifth Season Gardening Company.  It was a pleasure pulling this off with you!

Onward!
